Delorme Gazeteers are a great reference, been using them for years.  So much information, great for exploring either on the surface or in the air.  I will dig into the geography and terrain as your recommended.

I totally agree with your comment; strong pilotage skills and a mental map of the area are a must when the technonogy quits.

Check put the extensive review done in Aviation Consumer that reviewed both the hardware and flying with the Chelton. I have about 400 hours flying behind a two tube system and love it. It makes ANY approach a piece of cake, and the new software makes the system even better.
