There is a new transport request to Eldon, MO. Sorry I can't help with that transport, but I did want to take the opportunity to do a little educating to our non-pilots.
The requestor mentions that the nearest large airport is St. Louis, MO. Actually, the pilots that will be volunteering here will generally actually avoid "large" airports. These are the busiest airports and general aviation pilots avoid them unless they have a specific reason to go there. Many non-pilots may not even realize that the "large" airports that the airlines use are only a small fraction of the number of public use airports around the country.
In fact there is an airport in Eldon that is open to the public. http://www.airnav.com/airport/H79 In this case, Eldon Air Park is about 100 miles closer than Lambert Intl Airport in St. Louis.
Those requesting transport may want to get familiar with that web site http://www.airnav.com It contains lots of information useful to pilots. On the airports tab, you can search for airports by typing in the town and state. You have to check the Airport Use: line to make sure that it is open to the public, because there are actually more private airports than public ones.
While this is helpful, in the end, you will have to talk to the pilot about what airport is the best to use. That will depend on many factors including the airplane to be used, the pilot's ability, and even weather.
Sadly, many of these smaller airports are disappearing. Not realizing the benefit that they provide to the local economy, many see them only as a nuisance with those noisy and "dangerous" little airplanes. I hope those who participate in this endeavor will come to see the value of having those community airports and help us in the aviation community defend them from unnecessary closure.

Just tonight, I discovered a web site that will be helpful to rescues in finding nearby airports. Credit goes to Mike C. on the Cessna Pilots' Association forums who posted this web site.
http://www.runwayfinder.com
You can enter any location and display it on a road map, satellite photo, terrain map,] or aviation chart. Airports are indicated by small balloons. Hovering over the balloons will pop up the airport 3-4 letter identifier. Clicking the balloons will expand them to show the airport identifier and name and the latest hourly weather for the airport. If you click on the airport name, more information about the airport opens up.

Thank you Jeff, this is great information to have on hand. It will give the non-pilots a chance to investigate the area their animal is going to or from. Ultimately, as you stated, it is the pilots choice. Thanks to the Cessna pilots group for sharing the link as well!
