rkaplan Administrator Joined:  Sun Jan 22nd, 2006 Location:  Uniontown, Pennsylvania USA Posts:  393 Status:  Offline	Suppose you are flying a localizer back course approach to runway 24 with a charted final approach course of 240 degrees inside the FAF.  A Message indicator on your Garmin 430/530 flashes and alerts you to set the course on your HSI to 240 degrees.   What inbound course should you set on your HSI? (Answer on next post.)

(Answer on next post.) You should set your HSI to the front course or 060 if your HSI is receiving the localizer (CDI set to "VLOC").  Ignore the Message warning telling you to set the course to 240. However, in an emergency situation or a VMC situation if the localizer is inoperative and you choose to fly the approach with the CDI set to "GPS" then in that situation you would set your HSI to the back course of 240.
