Suppose you are given the following clearance from ATC:

"Proceed via MGW VOR then the MGW 336 Radial to the CKB 039 radial then as filed.  MGW and CKB VORs are off the air today."

How would you use the Garmin 430/530 to determine the intersection of the MGW 336 radial and the CKB 039 radial?

(Answer in next post.)

Go to the User Waypoint page.  An easy way to enter this page is to enter an unused waypoint identifier into your flight plan.

The most common way to define a user waypoint is by entering a bearing and distance from the waypoint.  However, you can also define a user waypoint as shown below as the intersection of two radials.    (Note that in this example the distance 5.2nm is calculated automatically by the GPS after the user enters the two defining VORs and radials.)

In trying this on the simulator... it seems that the 2nd VOR/Radial is used to define the user waypoint successfully, but if you recall the user waypoint, then the 2nd VOR/Radial information may actually reference a different VOR.

From what I can tell, the waypoint is stored correctly (ie: Lat/long), but the 2nd VOR identifier and radial are not retained.   It seems that maybe the closest VOR (not sure about this) is referenced on line 2 instead.

Yes that is exactly correct.
