Greetings from a new member.. glad I found this forum!

My club's 182RG has a 430 with WAAS and a S-Tec autopilot with GPSS. I have flown every trip with it, including approaches, and never had any trouble using it. One thing is driving me nuts though: How do you set the 430 up for an unpublished hold?

Let's say ATC says "7YG cleared direct XYZ, hold at XYZ on the 270 degree radial, left turns" - there has to be some way to set this up on the 430 to make the autopilot fly the hold.. doesn't there?

If it can't be done that would seem to be a pretty glaring omission on Garmin's part!

To hold at XYZ on the 270 radial:

1.  Go DIRECT to XYZ

2.  Press OBS

3.  Dial 090 (which is the inbound course) on your HSI or DG

4.  The GPS will depict the inbound course in magenta. Use the heading function of your autopilot to fly the hold.

No, it is not possible to depict the racetrack pattern and have the autopilot fly the complete hold for an unpublished hold.  That is a feature in the 480 but not in the 430W/530W.
